CES Myrtle Beach and Watson Sales Go the Extra Mile

Reading Time: 2 minutes

There’s an electrical supplier in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, that knows a little something about going above and beyond for customers. The store is City Electric Supply (CES) Myrtle Beach, and the person to tell you all about it is Outside Sales Rep Richard “Boo” Smith.

Three of his customers from J&M Electric — John Collins, Jason Mills, and Jacob Mills — told him they wanted to become certified polyvinyl chloride pipe installers. Smith immediately connected them with Bruce and Josh Watson of Watson Sales.

CES Myrtle Beach and Watson Sales Hit the Road

Less than two weeks after he made that call, Bruce and Josh Watson drove three hours to the J&M Electric job site in North Charleston, South Carolina, to conduct an hour-long training session. In solidarity, Smith drove over, too.

“It is truly refreshing to be partnered with such a dedicated vendor,” said Smith. “And the training was great. Some vendors make it more of a sales pitch than a training session, but Bruce made sure their time wasn’t wasted and that they learned what they needed to know.”

“I have to stay here on the job site to make sure everything goes smoothly,” said Jacob Mills. “So Bruce’s travel was extremely helpful. I didn’t have to leave the site and miss hours or a day of work.”

Not the First Time

Mills received the training on his own job site and learned about everything from how to install polyvinyl chloride pipe to the ins and outs of NEC’s BlackGuard, a PVC-coated steel and aluminum product line. And as impressive as the short-notice training was, it wasn’t an anomaly.

“It’s what I like to do,” said Bruce Watson. “I don’t mind driving, and I enjoy helping customers. This is a relationship-driven business.”

“Watson Sales did a training session a couple of years ago, and it was also great. I can’t praise Watson Sales enough,” said Smith. “CES is all about great service, and a key part of that is partnerships with vendors that value the same thing.”

Nothing Too Big or Too Small

In his 13 years with CES, Smith himself has gone above and beyond for customers. For instance, he’s dropped off supplies to customers on his way home from work, gone out of his way to fill $3 orders quickly for customers in a jam, and attended training sessions himself to make sure he can be a resource for customers.

“I don’t know of any other distributor that would set up a training session this quickly and attend it three hours away,” said Smith. “But that’s the norm at CES, and people know that. There’s nothing too big or too small for us. Especially with great vendors like Watson Sales.”

Even though it’s normal for them, we’re excited to hear about how CES Myrtle Beach, Boo Smith, and Watson Sales teamed up to go the extra mile for their customer — and we can’t wait to hear what they do next.
