The Importance of You | Mackie Monday

Reading Time: 2 minutes

Welcome to the August edition of Mackie Monday! I hope you all had a great summer and have taken advantage of some nice weather with friends and family.

I recently returned from a holiday in Spain where I was able to enjoy the beach and eat lots of fantastic Spanish food; it was a truly special trip for our family. But when I got home and started looking through some pictures of the trip, I realized just how out of shape I am…nothing like a couple of bathing suit pictures to bring that point home!

I can make lots of (potentially legitimate) excuses like constant work travel, long hours at the office, and constant work dinners, but at the end of the day my body doesn’t care about any of them.

So last week, myself and one of my best friends decided we needed a goal to work toward. We bought road bikes and are now signed up for a 61-mile ride in San Luis Obispo, Cali. at the end of October.

My plan is to get a CES jersey made for the ride and then use this as an opportunity to raise money for The Bridge, a homeless recovery center in Downtown Dallas on which I serve on the board.

Week 1 is down! So far I have ridden three times accumulating 41 miles. My longest ride was 21 miles on Saturday morning… still a long way to go but a decent start. I will keep you all updated on the progress with a bi-weekly blog post between now and race day.

In advance, I thank you all for your support! I challenge you all to find an accountability partner and make that positive change in your life that you’ve been thinking about, too. Whether it’s health, relationships, savings, or communication, find the time to start investing in yourself.
