A Quick Chat with Michael Trotter

Reading Time: 2 minutes

Meet Michael Trotter, a veteran CES employee who we are honored to have as a branch manager. His journey with us goes back to 1996, having opened the very first branch in North Carolina. Filled with gratitude and remarkable enthusiasm, he filled us in on his inspiring journey to becoming one of the top 25 stores over the past 22 years.

CES: What is your position now and where did you start in the company?

Michael: I started my career in the electrical industry as a driver straight out of high school where I worked for a number of years. I first heard about the opening at CES through a family friend and by that time, I had gained enough experience to head up their first location in Matthew as a branch manager. CES provided a wealth of opportunities for not only my career but also helped my two sons, who worked in the branches, to establish a foundation at a very young age. They are both now leading successful careers in development work and two of my most loyal customers. I am very proud of what we have accomplished.

CES: What’s been your biggest accomplishment/most proud moment while at CES?

Michael: Starting the Matthew branch from the ground up was incredibly challenging, yet the most rewarding experience. We had no reputation in the small niche community, so we worked extremely hard to build trust. The autonomous culture CES provides allowed us to flourish from the very beginning. We had the freedom of establishing our own business relationships and making decisions over product selections.

CES: What’s your favorite thing about working for this company?

Michael: I am really thankful for the independence CES instills in management. I also love that it’s a family-oriented culture which has helped me tremendously. My kids were practically raised in the branches.

CES: Where do you see yourself in 10 years?

Michael: I am looking forward to continuing my career with CES; hopefully, someday as a district manager.

CES: What is one unique thing you do at work every day?

Michael: I really enjoy talking to customers and just making them feel at home. The Matthew branch is full of laughter. As a manager, I believe if you can make customers feel at ease leaving the store, they are more likely to come back.

I am incredibly fortunate for my tenure with CES. I do not take it for granted.

Thanks for everything you do for CES, Michael!
