Anthony “Tony” Gustafson’s Journey at CES

Reading Time: 2 minutes

Keeping in line with other City Electric Supply (CES) veterans of the field, Colorado-native and Branch Manager Anthony “Tony” Gustafson of CES Broomfield has worked in the electrical industry for over three decades.

“I’ve been in the electric industry going on 32 years now. I started early in the trades working for my family,” explained Tony.

Through maternal uncles and his grandfather, Tony Gustafson started working in the industry for pocket money at the young age of 14 years old.

“I would basically be wiring, setting boxes, running rope, digging holes, those kinds of things,” Tony added.

Tony made his way to City Electric Supply years later, starting at CES Broomfield as a sales rep. And soon after, he took over as the branch manager.

“I then left Colorado and headed out to our California operation to help grow their markets. I was the district manager out there for about three-and-a-half years. And a few years later, I headed back out to Denver.”

Coming Full Circle

Tony now runs the branch that he started at.

“It’s one of the things that I love about CES. It’s a gigantic network, but we’re all still one family,” said Tony.

And speaking of family, a couple of Tony’s favorite memories were meeting the founder of City Electric Supply, Tom Mackie.

“I started when he was in charge of the entire division,” Tony said.

“I remember when Mr. Mackie, on different occasions, would ask employees at the store about themselves and what more they could bring to the company to make the branch better. Somebody that cared about their employees that much impressed me,” recalled Tony.

From that experience, Tony learned that knowing your employees and taking care of them like family are the most important ways to ensure success.

And now Tony has a family of his own.

“I’ve been married for 25 years, and I’m a father of three sons. Joshua is in school and works for me right now. Justin used to work with us and now works in the gas and oil industry. Nicholas is in college full time.”

With the deep connections that he has with CES, Tony has brought invaluable experience and skill to the Broomfield branch.

“I hope to pass on what I’ve learned over the years to the next generation. The growth of the branch is important, but the strength of the team is essential,” said Tony.

A great asset to both his family at home and his family at CES, Tony Gustafson has become a source of knowledge and mentorship.
